Footbridge installed in complicated road manoeuvres

Installation of the new footbridge over the railway tracks in Wokingham town centre went ahead at the weekend.

The bridge arrived on a wide load coming off the A329M, down London Road, and through Wokingham town centre at around midnight on Friday, 23rd February with a number of road closures put in place.

The Tan House bridge is made up of a permanent bridge and a temporary one at the point where the rail line splits between the South Western Railway to Bracknell and the Great Western Railway to Crowthorne, located near the Carnival Hub.

Network Rail had said that existing footbridge, a reinforced concrete bridge, was in poor condition and nearing the end of its operational life, while the second, a temporary structure held up by scaffolding, needed to be replaced for safety reasons.
